oh dang, treat culture....! (also defensive dressing & anemoia — new word for me!) i have been feeling romantically & politically pulled toward thrifting/secondhand lately. not to mention struggling with how i relate to buying/wearing clothes in general. you articulated stuff i haven't really had words for. thanks for giving them to me. xx
Yes thaaank you - not cute trends but surface level signs of deeper societal goings on(s?). I'm curious about the impulse buying topic, I wonder if we're now seeing a more susceptible generation now that we've figured out how to really capitalise on it? (TikTok shop etc.) Back in my asos days, I remember that being the logic behind the target audience but maybe I'm just filling in gaps that don't exist!

That is so nice of you to say. Thank you Courtney!
fantastic summarization and analysis of a really complicated topic.
Thanks a million Susan!

Almost certainly I reckon. I did not know you used to be an asos-er! :)
Yeup! But like, 15 years ago 🥴
Glory days!
You make so much sense. Love the way you pull together the things I’m seeing and feeling and articulate them coherently. 🙏
So kind of you to say. I am all about the pattern recognition. Can’t stop won’t stop :)
Interesting, going to get my teen daughter's take on your essay. What do you think about Skallas' "Stuck Culture" theory? https://lindynewsletter.beehiiv.com/p/culture-stuck
Do! V interesting.
Skallas yes, have written lots on this, e.g. https://patternrecognitionbytomorrowism.substack.com/p/is-the-algorithm-making-us-less-stylish

I agree with him. It's hard not to IMO. See also Matt Klein's Creator Paradox.
sorry - I meant here! https://patternrecognitionbytomorrowism.substack.com/p/classics-last-for-a-reason-but-do?utm_source=publication-search
Beth! Thank you so much for the mention. So much to unpick here as always. I have so much respect for your writing ❤️
